Vaccination is NOT required by the Joffrey Ballet School to audition for our programs. However, there may be different requirements of the location that hosts our audition or the local municipality that the audition will occur in. In the rare instance that a local government agency or an audition location requires vaccination to enter the audition site, this will be noted on our website. Please refer to a specific audition location to confirm all details.

Masks are currently not required. Visitors who wish to wear masks are, of course, welcome to do so.

Walk-In Dancers:
You will be provided upload instructions for digital photos on arrival. Please do not bring physical photos to submit in person at the audition. Please have a digital headshot & dance shot available on your phone for uploading.

Online Pre-Registered Dancers:
Digital photos are required at the time of registration for all students. Please do not bring physical photos to submit in person at the audition.

Ballet Auditions
• Headshot of dancer
• Photo of the dancer in Arabesque position. (The Arabesque may be en pointe, demi-pointe, or with foot flat on the floor.)

Jazz & Contemporary Auditions
• Headshot of dancer
• Photo of the dancer in any dance position/jump

Musical Theater Auditions
• Headshot of dancer
• Photo of the dancer in any dance position/jump

Tap Auditions
• Headshot of dancer
• Photo of the dancer in any dance position/jump

Hip Hop Auditions
• Headshot of dancer
• Photo of the dancer in any dance position/jump

We use these photos during the audition to help the instructor identify the dancer so they can make an appropriate award and scholarship designations.

These photos DO NOT have to be professional photographs and may be either in color or black and white.

If a dancer is pre-registered, these photos should be uploaded prior to the date of the audition. Additional photos will not be needed on the day of the audition.

If a dancer is a walk-in participant, they should have digital copies ready to upload during the registration process.

In Person:

Prices listed above are specific to most of our 2023 Domestic Audition Tour locations, spanning across the United States. Some of our partnerships offer dancers a discounted audition rate. International audition locations may also vary in price. Please refer to a specific audition location to confirm all details.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged. If you pre-register, you receive a discount on the audition fee and it allows you to move more quickly through the check-in process.

Ballet Auditions

In-Person and Virtual: Female students auditioning for a Ballet program should wear a black leotard, pink/skin tone tights, and pink/skin tone ballet slippers. Students en pointe should bring their pointe shoes. Boys wear black tights, black or white ballet slippers, and a black or white fitted t-shirt.

Jazz & Contemporary Auditions 

In-Person and Virtual: Students auditioning for a Jazz & Contemporary program should wear a black leotard and either tights or shorts. Bring both ballet slippers, jazz shoes, or jazz sneakers.

Musical Theater Auditions 

In-Person and Virtual: Students auditioning for a Musical Theater program should already be warmed up and stretched before the audition. Be ready to dance! Also, come prepared to sing 16 bars of music from a musical. You may choose any music you like. You will be singing your selection a cappella. There is no need to worry too much about the song choice. If you must, you may sing the national anthem, or your favorite Disney tune, and show that you are ready to perform. Please dress in any dance-appropriate attire that the dancer will feel comfortable moving in. A jazz shoe or jazz sneaker will be appropriate.

Hip-Hop Auditions 

In-Person and Virtual: Please wear black sweatpants or hip-hop pants with a t-shirt, tank top, or dance top (no jeans). Please wear jazz shoes, black dance sneakers (hip hop shoes), or NEW sneakers used for dance only. No loose or hanging jewelry.

Tap Auditions 

In-Person and Virtual: Please wear a black leotard and tights. Make sure to bring your tap shoes. Boys wear black tights or jazz pants and a black or white fitted t-shirt.

Audition classes are one hour and thirty minutes in length. Please refer to a specific audition location to confirm all details.

In-Person Auditions:
Cut-off time for Online Pre-Registration is 6 pm PST/9 pm EST for all in-person auditions (Domestic & International) the day before the audition. Dancers who miss this deadline can proceed to register as a Walk-In. Please arrive at the registration Check-In time.

Virtual Auditions: Cut off time is 1 hr prior to the start of the Virtual Audition Check-In Time. This applies to all virtual auditions (Domestic & International).
